Great exaplanations

I am finishing up chapter 7. Up to this point I have been very satisfied with this book, the explanations are fairly clear and it actually has all the answers for the review problems and a plethora of examples in the text. BUT I stopped working to write this review because now I am getting sick of incorrect answers or mislabeled charts. In Chapter 7 alone, 3 answers are wrong and variables are jumbled in another. If you can find errors like that then this book is fine, but if you're easily confused I would look for something with less mistakes.

Warning: I don't mind reading "dry" books. As a result I often suggest boring books to people. So read some examples and see if you like it; the book is pretty consistant as far as its applications go.

I read this book and found it a fairly good introduction to probability theory. It gives you a decent grasp of the basic concepts without too many complex equations. For more advanced readers it's probably (no pun intended) not suitable. There also are some factual errors, for example she states that "In a Markov chain, however, the probabilities for the outcome of a trial depend on the result of the previous trial" when in fact a Markov chain does not have memory.

About the Author

Kathleen M. Haywood, PhD, is a professor and associate dean for academic programs at the University of Missouri at St. Louis, where she has researched life span motor development and taught courses in motor behavior and development, sport psychology, and biomechanics. She earned her PhD in motor behavior from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1976.

Haywood is a fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology and the Research Consortium of the Society for Health and Physical Education (SHAPE). She is also a recipient of SHAPE’s Mabel Lee Award. Haywood has served as president of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity and as chairperson of the Motor Development Academy of SHAPE.

Haywood is also the coauthor of four editions of Archery: Steps to Success and of Teaching Archery: Steps to Success, published by Human Kinetics. She resides in Saint Charles, Missouri, and in her free time enjoys fitness training, tennis, and dog training.

Nancy Getchell, PhD, is an associate professor at the University of Delaware in Newark. For nearly 30 years, Getchell has investigated developmental motor control and coordination in children with and without disabilities. She teaches courses in motor development, motor control and learning, research methods, and women in sport.

Getchell is a professional member of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, the International Society of Motor Control, and the International Society for Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity. She is a research fellow for the Research Consortium of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD). From 2005 to 2009, Getchell served as editor for the Growth and Motor Development section of Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport. Getchell has also served as the chairperson of the AAHPERD Motor Development and Learning Academy.

Getchell obtained her PhD from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1996 in kinesiology with a specialization in motor development. In 2001, Getchell was the recipient of the Lolas E. Halverson Young Investigators Award in motor development.

Getchell resides in Wilmington, Delaware, where she enjoys hiking, geocaching, and bicycling.

Not able to get a refund for this, the product says "readable" on all devices through the kindle PC application. What they don't tell you is that every Figure, Table, and Picture is far too small to read and there is no zoom option for images. I would really like a refund for this because I'm in school and I had to buy a hard copy to be able to see the images, but so far I've been offered no support and no option for a refund because its a digital purchase.

Fantastic resource, but also a fine education and review.

Although geared very nicely for the Respiratory Therapy student or RT preparing for Neonatal and Pediatric Respiratory Care Speciality Exam, this text serves as a strong and sound resource for all the professionals caring for children with respiratory illness. The chapters are carefully crafted by experienced and wise physicians, nurses, RT's and pharmacists as appropriate, and are easy to follow. Color illustrations are a leap forward from the prior edition of this text. Although technology changes rapidly, physiology and development don't change at all. This text is a comprehensive and up-to-date resource that will help practitioners re-find their roots in these highly important foundations so critical to understanding everything else this field (all of which is also nicely presented in the text). Case studies tie in well with the chapters and help keep the reader centered on patient care. A nicely thorough and excellent resource at a price that is much less expensive than most texts in medicine. Well done!

Too bad it is softcover

Really a 3.5 stars for the content and 2 stars for poor formatting/presentations by publisher; A reference large textbook ideally should be hardcover as was previous edition thus I had to keep my previous hardcover edition (also dimensions of previous editions were smaller and better imho). After glancing through the book as usual very little changes from edition to edition in most medical textbooks thus I'm OK with keeping the previous edition but may have bought this one due to color addition and some new info if it was hardcover edition. Also, the author made some confusion (may be ok for seasoned RT/MDs) as was combining conventional mechanical ventilation with high frequency ventilation making the subject harder to grasp especially for someone new in the field.

It has great quiz questions to help you study. The only downside is that you have to access the website in order to see the answers. They aren't in the back of the book.

The questions written by the author/book publishers and provided to the teachers are extremely in depth questions. Pray that your teacher isn't using their test bank.

Probably helpful if you live in the UK

This book was well written and included many case studies and lists. The lists were quite helpful from a "save me the time to come up with the list myself" but nothing earth shattering (excuse the pun). The references and cases were almost exclusively from the UK so, as I live in Canada, some of the measurements and resources listed did not apply.

Old favorite enjoyed by new generation

When my son was 3-4 years old, thirty years ago, he kept asking where babies came from. One of my answers was to read this book. We ended up reading it at least 100 times. Not sure if it was his favorite book, but if number of times read is a measure, it was definitely in the top five! Since my son's wife is now expecting a second grandchild this summer I tracked this down for him to read to his daughter as the new baby is growing. It was fun for both of them to enjoy this old favorite.

A So-so answer to an Egg-cellent Question

"How does an egg like this grow into a chicken like this?" Selman's book provides a detailed answer to what is surely a common question, beginning with a look inside the hen's body and even illustrating the stages of development of the chick within the egg.

Egg to Chick is supposedly geared towards ages 4-8, but it seems that younger kids would have trouble with some of the vocabulary (sperm, embryo) and concepts (dogs and humans start out as eggs; fish and human embryos look alike), while older kids might be bored with the simple cadence of the writing. Nonetheless this might be a nice resource for families that raise chickens or for exploring comparative anatomy in a relatively simple way.

Chicks don't fly at 21 days....they hatch! This is a very good book for the study of the life cycle of chickens. We used this to help our children (and us) to know what in the world was going on in those eggs.We have incubated and let the hens sit on the eggs. My advice: let the mommas do it. CAREFUL ! Roosters are lurking in this book ! You know what that means? Your children will if your not careful !Which came first, the chicken or the egg? I know, do you ? I JUST LOVE THE PICTURES OF THE GROWING CHICK IN THE EGG. SEE YA' AT THE HEN HOUSE.

About the Author
Anita Mountain has been working nationally and internationally since 1990. She has trained and coached a wide variety of professionals from Owner/MD's to Consultant Psychiatrists and other trainers, coaches and consultants. As a company, Mountain Associates have worked with multi-nationals to SME's as well as local authorities within the UK. Her training in two fields of Transactional Analysis and the way she uses these has meant that she has been called iconaclastic and her professional expertise is in demand both as a key-note speaker and as a consultant, coach and coach supervisor. Chris Davidson joined Mountain Associates in 1999 after many years of experience in working in the public sector. His wealth of experience in groups and groupwork allied to his knowledge of human behaviour is of particular benefit when working in organizations. Chris Davidson also works internationally training others both in-house as well as in Mountain Associates open Developmental/Organizational TA, and Official Introductory TA workshops. Chris Davidson and Anita Mountain are business and life partners and so the title of this book - Working Together - also has relevance for them. An essential guide for all managers!

This book provides an inspiring new approach to leadership and management. Unlike many self-help guides it has helped me to look at what is working well as what areas I might like to improve. I have had no prior knowledge of transitional analysis and I was impressed how the authors have skilfully presented the concepts in an easily accessible way. The real-life examples are particularly valuable and have helped me adopt a mindful approach in my interactions with others, rather than simply following my reflexes and old habits. The strategies presented in the book have encouraged me to `experiment' and have go at `unsticking' previous stumbling blocks both in the workplace and at home, and as a result I've been able to successfully resolve a number of `difficult' issues that I would have previously tried everything to avoid. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to follow a structured approach to help overcome everyday frustrations and improve productivity and motivation in the work place.

Anita's and Chris' book is a very good mentor for all subjects you may encounter in your business- and also your private life.
You learn all about communication, recognizing, making contracts, game playing, leadership, bullying, culture, life balance, in order to cite only some of the valuable chapters of this book. It is written for daily use, it combines in a very professional way the theory behind our behaviour with the way we act. Especially worth mentioning are the many examples which are used to explain the messages of the chapters. A book strongly recommended for organizations and individuals.

Working Together if you are responsible for the team or you train people who are this is a must-read book. It puts human interaction using the transactional analysis model into very simple terms that are easy to understand. If you are visual and you like to see concepts and theories illustrated in simple pictures and models this book is a treasure trove of illustrations for you. As a professional trainer, I found it very useful in providing practical illustrations of dysfunctional communications and simple actions to minimize dysfunction.

About the Author

Steve Anchell teaches both digital and darkroom classes at Oregon State University. Internationally published, with his fine art work exhibited in galleries and private collections, Steve has conducted workshops since 1979, including workshops for the International Center for Photography in NYC, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, Toscana Photographic Workshops (Italy), the Universities of California at Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Irvine, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Denver.

Steve is a former contributing editor to Outdoor Photographer, Camera & Darkroom, and PhotoWork magazines, and has written for Shutterbug, Rangefinder, photo technique, View Camera, and Camera Arts magazines. Steve is the author of The Darkroom Cookbook, The Variable Contrast Printing Manual, and The Film Developing Cookbook, published by Focal Press.

Now that digital cameras have taken over and people have quickly become accustomed to the mediocrity of snapshots film developing has been discarded by most and is quickly becoming a lost art. This book is a good reference book for those purists (like myself) who revere the "real way" of doing photography.

This book is exactly as the title describes.

This book is exactly as the title describes. I had just finished up a photography class and we did both film and digital. We learned how to develop film and make out own prints, but I did not know there was many options and variables. It makes me appreciate the trouble the authors went through to gather all the information, as well as all the struggles to make photography what it is today.
